old Jack Daniels find via metal detector

I have no idea what this is. it was found about 8-12 inches down in the soil by my son while using his metal detector. It is about an 1.5 inches long. It has a number on the back. It was found by an old vintage pick axe. I would love any insight on what this is. It appears to be very old.
