I am still all in chock after i found this drawing by Canadian Artist "Joseph Purcell"Yesterday, i have to say artwork from this artist are in museum or privated collection, some sold at auction for quite a bid of money, also i did't find any drawing on internet, i start to believe, that this drawing probebly coming from family relative, because they quite personal to the Artist.Artist start by doing a Sketch and by this Sketch do the painting.
This look to be a drawing in Charcoal, depicted a Maritime scene(could be in Halifax) or anywhere along the coast.
The frame look to be from the time period 1950-60 with purlap around, this frame was 18 inch by 15 .50 inch, the drawing 12.50 inch by 9.50 inch

    Thanks for Viewing.

    --------------------------Joseph Purcell 1927-____-------------------------------

Born Halifax, Joseph Purcell studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art where he studied on scholarship. After he left the College he began a series of paintings interpreting Nova Scotia towns, and the activity of the East Coast and Atlantic fishing industry. By 1947 he had established himself as a professional painter and had his first exhibition at Zwicker’s Gallery. Joe was commissioned to paint a series of murals for the Nova Scotian Hotel, and the Victoria General Hospital. In 1953, he moved with his artist wife to Lunenburg, when he found much of the subject-matter that was to be the basis for his paintings for the rest of his career. Joseph is known for working in watercolour and oil. He has established himself as one of the most popular artists working in Atlantic Canada, and his paintings are in collections all over the world including Britain, Continental Europe, the United States, and Australia as well as all over Canada.

Good eye, Alan. :) I think you did well with another painting you found, the one of the Native American?

Many thanks, Katherinecollections, for your comment and love, much appreciated.
No merits on this, was an easy one, by looking sideways you clearly see the pen strokes.
I knew was an original, still an awesome find.;D

Yes pure talented artist, and the good thing about it, I look online, there not such thing like that, only oil and watercolor from him, that made me wonder if this was personnal to family members.

If I understand you correctly, you have only seen oil and watercolor.
This does not exclude that he could work, and coal.

Joseph Purcell is older now but still paints in his studio for a full day of painting every day, 87 years old and still amazing us all. Charcoal and pencil sketches were done for all paintings in the beginning, so his collection has plenty of these. At a certain point many decades ago, a good number of fine sketches were turned into prints and sold matted and framed from The Purcell Family Art Gallery in Lunenburg NS. Joe and his wife Tela still sell this material and have quite a selection available. It is lovely and indeed very personal captures from the artist sitting right at the scene.

The gallery in Lunenburg is one of the most beautiful experiences on the coast of Nova Scotia. It's a real treat and feast for the eyes. Please visit. Kind regards,
      John
