It seems to have a mark on the back of the bow, can you get a close up photo? If it turns out to be Russian, those green stones may be almandine garnets, which are much more valuable than peridots.

I love the pendant! Do you think it is possible that the chain is not original to the pendant? The chain looks very heavy. It must have a lot of gold in it. I have some pendants from that period and most of the original chains are broken because they were too fragile. But having said that, mine are most likely of lesser quality all together. You got a lucky wife!

Thanks freiheit for your love & kind comments , i would of said the chain is almost definatly not an original , it does look & feel heavy but a good colour match!! Also the chain is marked 9ct but the pendant isnt ;-)

Lovely necklace! If Russian, the green stones may very well be demantoid garnets (or as my friend calls them, "demented garnets").

The original mines were discovered in 1868 in the Ural Mountains in Russia; demantoid garnets were favored stones of Faberge and Tiffany. The mines were essentially closed after WWI. There are now other demantoid sources, especially Namibia, but only the Russian demantoids have "horsetail occlusions," golden brown crystal threads of chrysotile which can be seen under magnification.

      From the International Gemstone Association:
The demantoid is one of the most brilliant gemstones that exist, yet until recently it was little known except among collectors and gemstone lovers. Strictly speaking it is a green garnet, or rather the star of the green garnets. The demantoid belongs to the large gemstone family of the garnets, and is actually a variety of the garnet mineral andradite. But it is more than that: it is the most expensive kind of garnet and one of the most precious of all gemstones. It is highly esteemed on account of its rarity coupled with that incredible luminosity.

Hi surfdub, if you on to my posting there is a necklace with Dermatoid Garnets. It might give you a idea.

Also I have a Butterfly with emerald eye and the other a Dermantoid Garnet, the colours are completely different greens.

Thans for correcting, Bluboi; green demantoid garnets was what I meant; naturally, almandine garnets are the wrong color.
