This little basket has a very intricate pattern. I think it's made from some kind of grass. When i first saw it at Goodwill, it reminded me of Yokut or northern Californian Indian basketry. I'm not sure at all though. Not an expert. Does anyone have any insight into this neat little basket?
i forgot to mention that it's 3" tall x 3" wide.
Adorable intricate work, LOOOVE it!!!
thank you kyratango!
What a cutie! I'd say it's contemporary, but I'm no expert. :)
These are glass cozies, used to fit around drinking glasses, mid-1900's. Made in China, and originally sold in sets of 8. They had a small cloth tag stitched on the bottom, with "Made in China" printed in blue ink.
If you do a web search for "vintage basket glass cozies" you will find your item, including one with the tag still on it: https://www.etsy.com/listing/189090619/vintage-glass-cozies-woven-straw-basket.
They also show up frequently on eBay: 381212009648 (This one has a tag that is more legible.)
They're nice little baskets, but usually sell for under $1 apiece, locally. Maybe better on the web. In my area (SW) they commonly show up at thrift shops and flea markets.
Ah it's delightful! I've never seen little baskets like this.
CanyonRoad - how right you are! i went back and found 8 more of them which i bought for 99 cts ea!
