Kokeshi: A New Look At An Old Tradition

I discovered a new, comprehensive book on the subject of creative/modern Kokeshi artists, in English, showcases the excitement of their works, with 196 fully illustrated color plates of some of the very best examples of Creative Kokeshi dolls from all regions of Japan. The book is a current, visual telling of a folk craft almost three centuries old. I found that a long with many beautiful images, the book contains biographical data on 56 Creative Kokeshi artists representing a wide spectrum of the genre as well as a Sosaku artists’ directory listing 228 of the most well-known. I personally feel that this book gave me further insight into the craft, folk art and the customs associated with the Japanese culture.
