The shade is octagonal clear glass mostly covered with large white spatter. Hand painted around the lower part of the inside are alternate motifs of a church and a pair of trees. The pairs of trees are all different as are the churches. In the background are distant, hazy hills.....possibly not picked up by the camera.

I've listed it in Lamps then Lampshades but have no firm view of its period.

Any help on period, country of origin etc. would be welcome.....I'm at a loss on this one!

Thank you, SEAN.....the pictures don't really do it justice....especially the one of it lit up!

This is interesting that the painting is inside the lampshade!
I don't know a maker but the type of landscape reminds me Austria...?
    4. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 10 years ago
I agree, there is something art deco about them even if there is detail in the painting. Nice.

Thank you for commenting, Ivonne. Funnily enough the church reminded me of some we saw during a holiday stay in Regensburg....a town not far from Austria or Czechoslovakia.

Hello Elisabethan....the seller said they were Art Deco too.

      Dear Peggy,
The shape and the painting both say Czech to me as to age, that is not as easy. The painting was done from about 1910 into the 30s on shades and this shape too was used in the 20s 30s and even into the 40s.
Do you by any chance have a profile of the fitter, handy? If so I would like to see that if it isn't a pain.
      Sincerely
      Lisa

Thank you Lisa, for sharing your knowledge....it's much appreciated, Peggy.

Lisa, I'll do a second post showing the fitter etc. Perhaps better to reply to this post so I can delete the fitter info once you've seen it, Peggy

When I first saw it I thought of the "Knuckle Vases" that we see here on CW attributed to Kralik and Welz.
    11. inky inky, 10 years ago
It also reminds me of a knuckle vase...it's lovely
      ...:-)

Vetraio and inky.....thank you both! I nearly included 'knuckle' in the title as I've recently seen an actual 'knuckle' shade in a Welz decor.....but thought better of it! What puzzles me is that the painting, which is delicate and detailed, has been done on a 'spatter type, base.

Interesting shade in an interesting shape!!
    14. sklo42 sklo42, 10 years ago
I too find it interesting, welzebub...... to the point where if it remains an unknown it won't bother me.

I think its Kralik or Welz too. If you ever visit Czechoslovalia you will see these in small town pubs. I saw a bunch when I went a few years ago...

Thanks jericho, I have seen another version with flat roofed buildings and two 'palm' trees on the alternate panels. I still regret not buying it.....
