So I purchased this necklace and am pretty sure it is pre WWII because of the styling though it is possible it could be as late as 1950's with Art Deco styling. It has a very unusual clasp in the form of a clip and is marked Deutschland, there are also other number markings which were scratched on and hard to make out. It tests as sterling and has a rhodium plating. The bead drop is white glass but originally had a champagne pearlized coating which is almost completely worn off.

It is just so unusual I have never seen jewelry marked like this, Germany you see of course. Has anyone had this mark before or does anyone have any info about this type of jewelry? Thanks so much for looking!

This is unlikely to be from the period 1945 - 1990. It would probably have carried the mark West Germany, or Bundesrepublik Deutschland (BDR). It is also unlikely to have been made in communist East Germany during the same period. Silver and marcasite jewellery was popular, in many countries during the inter-war period. Rhodium plating is always a sign of quality, in my experience. However, have this properly appraised. I have had 2 pieces of rhodium-plated silver, where the stones were not marcasites, and coloured cut glass from Gablonz, Czechoslovakia, but diamonds, rubies and emeralds.
