This is my most valuable find yet! And a divergence from my usual collecting!
I spotted this in an auction house ( how could you miss it) just love the organic style and natural stoneware and the modernist shape! It had been passed in! And quickly became mine for $46
After some research on the markings and some help from an Australian pottery site it was discovered to be an early Victor Greenaway piece made 1971. Victor himself has contacted me to hopefully meet when he returns to Australia next, this to him is like a child returning! it is featured in his book page 34 and in his words a significant piece. Photos and imformation emailed to Melbourne with a written valuation of $1,900 to $2,100 by the experts.
Happy days collect what you love, and sometimes you get lucky
I saw this on the Oz pottery FB page and was GREEN for you GREENAWAY!
TRULY A FABULOUS OZ POT !!!!
What a great eye you have Dandy! This is a world class Australian piece...just fabulous.
How great too that you contacted Greenaway.
Thank you for your lovely comments, really contacted Victor by mistake. Was still trying to confirm if it was one of his pieces and found and Australian contact number for his work and texted the photos through. It ended up being his daughter who emailed him the images in Italy!
Great piece. Great eye.
stunning Dandy!!!!!!!!!!!!! a great find !!!!!!!!!
Absolutely love this, Excellent!
Thank you Cormoran1925 SEAN68 and catteann for your lovely comments
This is a great piece! I also lucked upon a Greenaway vase, and I think it must be part of the same line as yours. My vase has the same ribbing and colour and everything but perhaps is a bit less wide and taller. Just wondering, did you end up opening a shop? I'm in Victoria as well. Kindest, Kyle
