This basket has been in private collection for many years, originally purchased in Snohomish, WA - but have never been able to identify tribal affiliation of this basket. Basket measures 9-1/2" tall by 7-3/4" wide (widest point). The animal image design does not show on the inside, only outside. Thinking perhaps Chehalis or Apache? To the very knowledgeable out there any information as to tribal affiliation would be very much appreciated. Beautiful piece of work.

It's a twined Skokomish basket, from the Hood Canal region of western Washington.

Here's a good article. by one of the most reputable authorities, which gives great information on how to identify Western Washington baskets: http://arthurwerickson.com/pages/baskets-of-western-washington
