This is a bakelite cigarette case with a built in electric lighter. This was made in the 1930s by Tarrson Co of Chicago. I have a pack of matches (in a MacBeth Evans ashtray from the 1930s) to show the size.
To light a cigarette one pushes and holds down the white button. The tip of the cigarette held against the heating element of course.
The rear section is about the size of a cigarette pack, perhaps just a bit bigger. This of course would be filled with cigarettes.
It has a great art deco look and a rich brown color.
I had never seen one
