One of the most recent additions to my collection was this sixth-plate daguerreotype portrait of a young blue-eyed boy wearing faint yellow shorts and sitting on a long settee. As with all daguerreotypes, the photographic plate is taped to a thick pane of glass in order to prevent moisture from tarnishing the silver plating. The original tape used to seal the photograph - also known as the original seals - are still intact. There are, however, several whitish blotches on the surface of the plate. The young boy's name is written in pencil on the back of the photograph, but I have not been able to decipher it. I replaced the original leather-bound case, which had almost fallen apart over the years, but other than that I have done nothing to it.
