Sometime last year when doing my usual trawl of thrift shops and car boots I came across this (I think) beautiful 33cm clear glass vase which looks as if it belonged sometime in the 1980's.
After a little research I found the vase marketed under the name Yoko by a Czech company called Ivan Klimt and thought I had identified it and I found a place for it in my collection.
A little later while looking for something else I came across another company called Crystallite Bohemia who are still producing this vase. Never mind I thought, I paid well below retail price so I still got a bargain, we live and learn.
Just this evening I was on ebay searching for something completely different and I managed to find my way onto AliExpress, no idea how, but lo and behold there was my vase again. Better still, I found a Chinese glass company who will manufacture them for me, if I place a minimum order of 10,000 pieces.
So my lovely 1980's Bohemian Glass Crystal vase could very well be a Chinese copy made yesterday.
Lesson for today, not everything is what it first appears. I will never know who made my vase but at least it has found a home in my collection.
In future I will be a lot more suspicious of identifications made on the interweb thingy.

Oh don't you hate when that happens? I don't suppose there's any way of finding out if the first two makers, Bohemia, Klimt, signed their pieces, or some other way of absolutely ruling them out? Some characteristics, height, base, or anything else distinctive?

Oh the "interweb" weaves a tricky thread.
It sue looks beautifully made. Maybe the Chinese recently got the moulds?
I've noticed a huge number of Nuutajarvi Flora bowls here lately, and apparently they are now made in Malaysia. I can't tell the difference.
      Hmmmmmm

Hi Katherine, thanks for the comment. They appear to be identical but I havent held the Chinese copy in my hand yet (I hope) to see if there any obvious differences.

      Hi Karen,
I think the moulds are now in the hands of the Chinese, I assume they simply bought the Crystallite Bohemia moulds and/or factory. Seems to be happening more and more.

Gracay, Cristalite Bohemia is still Czech glassworks and the owner is a Czech company.Ivan Klimt is a trader who sells glass ,porcelain etc and marks things with his own label.Ali?xpress is in fact Chinese online shop, but they also sell imported goods,so I think your vase might be originally Czech but not so old, rather contemporary from Quadro line maybe?

      Dear Gracay2004,
I watched looked and listened. From the photos it is stunning, so who cares who made it, unless your planing on selling it, then you need to know. But at 33" tall, it's a great find in my book. Congrats...

I have to ask, at 33", how much does it weigh. My guess is over 25lbs.

Hello artistinside, my apologies, 33 inches would be very impressive indeed! It is "only" 33cm (I have corrected my error) but still weighs in at around 2.7kg.
I have no intentions of selling it, it will be pried out my cold dead hands like the rest of my collection.

Thanks Ivonne for the information, I thought Klimt was the seller/dealer and Crystallia Bohemia was the producer but now I am not sure if mine is older and Czech or newer and Chinese. I believe the product line for this one is called "Yoko" and it is still in production although I am not sure where exactly.
I hasten to add it makes no difference to me whatsoever, I bought it because I loved it and I am keeping it regardless!
