      All it needs is a wax-job. Most collectors think of the wooden canteen as only a few inches depth, when the longer barrel shape was very common in those days. Not military issue of course. Possibly Confederate & I would be interested in what area found & it there is any known history?

      Sorry to be just getting around to remarking on these posts. The last photo was of DUI (Distinctive Unit Insignia), commonly called Unit crests. They've been used by the US Army since the 1920s, and usually identify units of regimental size or smaller, or a headquarters element of larger units. There are thousands of varieties.

      Hey, I got a "DUI" once! Chrisnp, you know there isn't a serious bone in my body! Just kidding. They don't give DUI's here as it is considered normal driving habits. LOL!
