When we first started collecting gas pumps and signs I couldn't seem to find enough pumps locally so I sought them on Craigslist in Montana. What was I thinking? I managed to buy 3 pumps in Billings so it gave us a good reason to take a long joy ride to pick them up. Obviously we did some Hunting along the way and while on our trip my wife spotted this awesome Chevy dealer sign on the garage of a home out in the stix on a little gravel road to nowhere. We met the owner who was kind to us and had at one time owned a Bulk Plant and gas stations!!!! He promised to find us some other collectable items and showed us a lamp he had made from an original Frontier Globe. No he won't sell his lamp! Nor exchange it for a repo plus cash! He also wouldn't sell us the Chevy sign for 2 years. Finally after offering him a lot of money and his continuing to refuse he "came to himself" while out fishing for Kokanee salmon one day when they wernt biting, and called me on the phone while I was lying on a hammock on vacation in Hawaii. While sitting on his fishing boat on the Lake he simply said: the fish aren't biting so I've decided to sell you that sign you keep calling about"! That was about two months ago and we finally got up his way to take it off his garage and add it to our collection at aaaLakeside Storage. We could not be more thrilled. Every sign and every pump has a story and thats part of why "The Fun is in the Hunt". He will always be a friend of ours and would have been even if had never chosen to sell us his cool Chevy sign. We speak every couple of months now and he calls me when he's traveling and finds things he thinks might interest us for our collection. They spend the winters in AZ so travel a bit themselves. Isn't this a great hobby?
