      That's perfectly acceptable Hoipolloi.

      Interesting base and maybe it's European. I have a German ashtray with a base like that - can't remember who by!
      Someone else will be by for their ideas (and possibly knowledge even!).

      I looked up my ashtray and it was IDed as VEB Haldensieben, East Germany.
      Doesn't mean yours is but might be worth a bit of a search.
