First of all I have only recently come across you website and enjoyed scrolling through everyones posts! and notice how helpful everyone is in sharing their knowledge.
I would appreciate if anyone could provide me information on this hand painted ewer. It appears to be a rough type of ceramic, glazed and hand painted. It is a bit wonky in its application of spout and lid. It is cream, blue hand painted carp scene. Fine crackle. 3 x Chinese character signature. Uneven finish, imperfections. Appears to be inscriptions inside. 34cm high plus lid 43cm.
I also purchased a similar ewer at the same shop, but has pink introduced to the carp scene and measurements slightly differ.
Thank you for any info you can share.
One of the experts may come along later and comment, to my eye these look contemporary Chinese. They are lovely! :)
Thanks Catherine. I wasn't even sure they were Chinese or Vietnamese, they just appealed to my sense of interest and unusual. I have searched internet and local library reference books but haven't come across anything like them. They are a bit wonky so could be potter's first attempts? Cheers.
Ah, well, those are details you can see looking at it up close and personal. :) You should get further comments on this thread, I'll be interested in reading them.
I hope so Katherine, they are quite large and heavy and I'm totally baffled! Cheers :)
Thank you for the offer Jim, I would really appreciate any information you can resource. I have searched extensively for some clues but haven't come across anything that is minutely like them. Fingers crossed, I look forward to hearing from you! Kind regards, Lynette.
Thank you, appreciate your interest Jim. Have a good weekend :)
Great, hopeful they will have some info. They are quite tall at 43 cms, perhaps water ewers? Have a good rest of the weekend, Lynette. :)
Thank you Jim for your time and interest in helping me to identify these items. I have read the post, it gives me another pathway to investigate other areas of Asian pottery. Will keep you updated if I come across further information. Looks like a bucket list item! Lynette.
