I am interested to know what this object is. It has a thickly padded top, so is it a pincushion.? When opened to reveal the inner, it has a pink (card) lining and a mirror under the lid. If it is a pincushion then what is the mirror for? HELP.

Forgot all about details, Whoops!! The object appears to be made of Tin. It has impressed lines of dots around the circumference, two sets of twin lines on the base and one set of similar on the lid. The container measures 65mm in diameterand 45mm tall. The base is made of black card with an embossed floral pattern in black. The underlid mirror is glass. The cushion?? pad is a brown velour type material. No manufacturers mark to be seen.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately I don't have the book. If you do can you email the page so I can see the article for myself?. I am still wondering what the mirror is for though !.

Your item is a traveling sewing kit. I have one with a blue pincushion top. It contains a thimble in the center and five little spools of thread around the thimble. A needle and needle threader lay on top. Handy for making repairs while traveling, and checking them too with the mirror.

Thank you for that ,Vesta. Have you any idea of the age, please.
It would be interesting to know when and where it was made and by whom.

I would have to GUESS at the age, maybe 1940's or 50's. The bottom of mine is stamped Japan. After World War II Japan was occupied by allied forces, and in that time period a lot of products were produced for sale in the US; this may have been one of them.
