    This is an early war Japanese Marine canteen. The screw top cap is made of brass and is attached to the body of the canteen with a brass chain. Brass is used to prevent rust. The canteen is insulated with an olive green canvas cover which is removeable. The Army model canteed does not have the cover. The kanji on the cover denotes the user's unit.
