I picked this up a few weeks ago. I was amazed at how heavy it was for it's 8" size. The sides are very thick with a deeply carved abstract design. The satin parts have a vertical almost wood grain texture. The opening in the top is quite tiny too. You might get one or two thin stems in it. The bottom is polished with a concave pontil. No signature or labels. -Mike-
very beautiful!!
Thank you Sean :)
Why didn't they sign it!! Looks good!
I don't know and it seems like a quality piece too. It may have had a label at one time.
I wonder if it may have been one of those mid century lamp bases..I have one similar.....just a thought!...:-)
I suppose anything is possible inky, but it's really small and doesn't have any holes for the electric cord unless it was free standing on another base.
Mine doesn't either it hangs out of the top with fitting...it's packed at the moment so can't have a look at it .... But will google and see if I can find something to show you that is what I mean...:-)
Cool...Thanks Ink :)
Here's a couple, modern but the same idea...:-)

It's certainly an interesting and intriguing piece, Mike!
Thanks Katherine :)..... Inky, I've seen that style of lamp with the cord trailing from the socket. Always thought it looked a bit messy but it's the best way to preserve a valuable vase without drilling it out and ruining it.
Yes! I agree with you, it does look messy...I don't use mine as a lamp it just sits there...but I am certain it started its life a lamp base, I presume because it was Hand blown you couldn't drill a hole in it for the cord....is yours?... Sorry!.,.I can't see the base clearly!..:-)
Nope no holes in mine Ink thank God. It's over an inch thick at the bottom. You'd be drilling forever..lol.
