hand carved game bird in glass dome

Can anyone please tell me what it is made of? Or maybe manufacturer? I can see that it's hand carved but unclear of what the material is. I searched trying to determine what type of bird it is, closest I found was California quail but head feathers lay backwards, not forward. If you can help me find out what I should use for search words so I can determine worth. recently inherited this along with other items but unfortunately know nothing about when or where she got it. Thank you, I hope it's something rare! :-)
