If you would repost the photos from a home computer they could be posted right side up.

It's African, made by the Hausa of Nigeria. A contemporary import, found in gift and souvenir shops all over the country. A coiled basket, made from palm fiber.

      African? Hmmm

CanyonRoad is correct. This is a Hausa basket from Nigeria.

Anyone else have an idea where it from. Thanks

It is definitely African, made by the Hausa of Nigeria and neighboring Niger.

If you want a reference to confirm, here is a web site: http://basketmakers.com/topics/collect/fakes/hausanigeria.htm

And examples from a direct importer, who specializes in African art: http://tinyurl.com/p3h9btw

Where an item was purchased or found usually has no connection with where it was made.

Thank you for that reference. Helpful.

You can also go to Ebay and put in a search for "Hausa Basket". There you will see many baskets that look just like yours. There may be other shapes, but the colors are the same and most of them also have the design the same.
