From 1964. When GI Joe came out Marx came up with Stony Smith. He was basically a green army man with moveable arms and lots of accessories. For just about a quarter more than a basic GI Joe, which came with just a figure and uniform, you could get Stony with a complete set of accessories. It seemed like a good idea but it didn't turn out so well. Stony's molded on uniform and limited articulation did not put much of a dent in GI Joe's sales. Plus GI Joe had hard plastic painted accessories while Stony came with molded soft plastic accessories that seemed a bit cheesy. Also while GI Joe had a wooden footlocker Stony had one made out of cardboard as seen in the last photo.
Improvements were made but Stony was discontinued in 1968.
That is enough bad news about Stony. He had tons of fun accessories and is low cost to collect now. Plus his head went on to become Johnny West. A highly successful line with the same basic design.
VERY COOL!!!
This is so cool Fort. Wait until Vman sees it - he'll be searching these up next!

Not looking like Vincent likes this one.
I do like it. He looks just like one of those old action movie stars especially john wayne. Did he ever have any enemies or different versions of himself. If so I would love to see them.

My brother who was a kid during the 1980s has a nice collection of GI figures, I loved his Cobra Rattler, such an awesome plane!
Thank you very much Shawn186. The little guys did have a lot of vehicles.
Thank you very much Vincent. He just had more versions of himself called Buddy Charlie. These had removable uniforms. No enemies. So far this is all have so far for Stony, I want to get a boxed version.
