This unexpected street running scene was captured by me through the windsheild while making a quick pitstop in the unbelievable antiques mecca of HUdson NY (as part of my whirlwind east coast summer antiques tour 2010). With two kids and 8 live lobsters on ice in the back seat (just the lobsters were on ice) I could only afford a 15 minute stop in this town chock full of amazing old brick buildings and dozens and dozens of antique shops.
As we drove into town I noticed the tracks immediately, coming out of nowhere and heading straight through the grass on the town square! A quick glance to the left revealed the old station. I rounded the town square once in amazement and then headed down the main drag for a quick browse of the shops and a chocolate ice cream. Hearing a horn blast in the distance I hopped back in the car for the chase. These two CSX units (SD-40s?) appeared, moving quickly, traversed the town square, and within seconds disappeared off into the woods... but not before giving me a thrill.
If you're ever anywhere near this town (Hudson), go see it. Its great even without a street running sighting.
