I usually do not have too much trouble reading documents of similar age, but this one has been giving me some trouble. It was written and signed by Joseph Kimball in Windham, NH in 1800. Kimball was not from Windham and as there are no other names I am unsure of his connection to Windham. I was hoping that someone may be able to offer a reading of the document that would at least give me some idea of what it is. It apparently has something to do with a trial.
Here is my reading:
Windham May 31th 1800
The subscriber comes and defends when and where and free for plea (?) says that he did not promise (ratured, illegible) in manner and form as (....forth?) (ratured words) the declaration of the waits therefore (?) him (?) on trial

Thanks for the help! The word in the middle that was crossed out is "the plaintiff" so I am assuming the "subscriber" was the defendant in a court case.

yay kyratango! i grew up w/ very mixed french/english all around me, and i couldn't read it at all. i think it must be a very special and natural gift for some to read very foreign and ancient tongues and understand them.

I personnaly think the natural gift is to do that on my phone, while hubby asked where were his socks! LOL!
Did you that Graphology is the analysis and art of handwriting analyses? Well character and personality can be found in a written sample of handwriting. So if you were to find a Graphologist, Document Examiner or similar they would give you an idea of the character of this individual.
