This was a sad find. Someone had glued a pin to the back to turn it into a brooch. Because of that, the purple glass in the middle lost all of its beauty – but only temporary. I managed to take the glue off and cleaned the glass. I believe that this was originally the center part of a necklace. This means that the rest of this once beautiful necklace is missing. The good news is that it actually looks rather nice on a silver chain.
Thanks for looking:)
What a gorgeous brooch. How come these gorgeous and beautiful brooches don't get much Love and Comments when we post? Do you have a "normal" audience Fretheim or has the USA gone on long week end holiday like we are here in Victoria?
Your brooch is interesting. What gives you the hint that the glass is Czech? Just asking as I have a few that I have linked to Czech but we never truly know unless it's got Made Kn Czech ...and a little hard today do on backs of brooches....
Is there a good reference book that you have or know of btw? I've bought a few to help me identify my vases, drink sets and baskets but only one has a few beautiful shots in it for Czech brooches...Anne xx
Hold up Anne, I'm from the US and I think it's gorgeous!
Thanks so much, both of you!
AnneLanders, I am just guessing. I have seen many brooches and necklaces looking very close to mine and they were actually marked with Czechoslovakia.
I have not yet found the exact one on line. I am hoping that someone here will know more about my brooch:)
Looks so pretty, great brooch!
Nice salvage, glue can be a ruining thing on closed back stones!
Thanks so much for your comments, Virginia.vintage, valentino97 and kyratango:)
I have the same book at home and I love it!! I didn’t check it because I have been too busy here at work. I should take some time to go through the pages. I agree with you, I prefer books over the Internet when it comes to reference books. The few books I have are full of yellow sticky tags to mark interesting stuff. The problem here is that we don’t have any good bookstores anymore. They don’t carry anything on antiques or jewelry other that the Knowles books. To get a book on these subjects one has to order on-line and I don’t like it.
I was actually rather lucky when I wanted to remove the glue. I pulled and most of it came off with the pin. I guess the glue was really old. The rest was easy; I used my fingernail to carefully get rid of the remaining spots and a q-tip with Windex to get the glass shiny again.
I think I got the book name wrong LOL
Thanks so much for your comment, valentino97.
When you are done with your book, let me know. You found your first(?) fan!
