This is a 21" x 15" framed photo of the WWII transport the USS La Salle.
This was a troop transport that served from March 1943 until July 25th 1946. It was sold for commercial use and scrapped in 1968.
As can be seen this was made for Bob Miller who served as a radio man on the ship. I fear he has passed on otherwise this would probably still be in his possession. The ship had 8 battle stars, only 5 are seen here. They appear to be pre computer with cut-out stars and type from a type writer.
I thought the 5" gun on the stern was interesting. According to Wikipedia it had a 5",' 12 x 20mm, cannon, and 4 .50 cal machine gun. But that sure does look like a 3" gun on the bow.

Great ship souvenir-- this style of souvenir was very post WW2 for US Navy veterans.

I had a typing problem with my comment. Meant to say that these were a POPULAR souvenir item for WW2 US Navy veterans. Most that I have seen were made near the end or right after the War.
