I m not sure abouth this brooch. I bought it because it looks interesting and I love mourning jewelry.
At first glance the material looks like jet,but when you look at the back and how the brooch was made, I m not sure its jet. looks like an iron frame where the front is soldered on. So I m not sure about the material of the front. It has a c- clasp, but the needle isn t very elongated, and the hinge doesn t look very old.
Does anyone have an idea about this brooch? i would appreciate any input! Last pic is my boy 'Mr Mittens'...he s growing so fast..almost 5 months old now, and still momma s biggest treasure ;-) oops, he s on his side again, small bat he is!
Thanks aghcollect for your love
Thanks katherinescollection, racer4four, vetraio50 and aghcollect for the love.
Oldandsilly, thank you very much for your comments, Im not sure though its bog oak. i do have a bog oak brooch, I posted it here on cw a while ago, and this one looks different, its more like its molded to the iron frame
Valentino, thanks for your comment! This brooch is really a mystery to me...maybe vulcanite?
Valentino got it! I didn't knew the name for it :-)

Val, yes you might be right with crepe stone, thanks!
I love it when all the experts come onto a thread and analyze something, back and forth, until it gets figured out. I know sometimes it looks and feels like a tennis match battle, but that's because you all are so passionate and smart. I wonder if you know what you bring to the table, and how you make CW such a wonderful place to be for all of us who partake in your shared wisdom.
Katherine, indeed sometimes it looks like a tennis match, but I LOOOOOOVE to learn more about jewelry. i have learnt so much here on this site, sometimes I only wished we could all sit in one gigantic room with our jewelry...seeing it irl is different and itwould be great to learn even more! :-)
Val, thank you so much for your input, mourning jewelry has a special place in my collection. Sometimes seems Im the only one in my country who loves this type of jewels
