    Just bought this for ten dollars so I assumed it was a reproduction or modern piece. It is life size and weighs a ton. I assumed it was a modern piece possibly composite material but feels like it literally weighs 50 pounds.
    Can anyone tell if this is possibly real by looking at it?

      It looks like a Greek head (from a kouros statue) from the Archaic period (600-500 B.C.), so it's either a modern copy of a specific statue or a modern head inspired by Archaic art. Looks like marble (not plaster as it would not be that heavy). That's my guess!

      Wow interesting. Thanks so much for the info. I recall that era from Art History classes. But would it have stayed in this good a shape? It does very much resemble that style. Very exciting to believe that it could be real.
      Any idea what the bumps are? Is that from age or acidity in the air?
