This is a wonderful bonbon or sweet meet dish delicately pierced. The detail of the well preserved hallmarks, last picture, tell us it was done by "Mappin & Webb", and proved in Birmingham England (lion and anchor) the date letter "z" for 1924 http://www.925-1000.com/dlc_birmingham.html, a very similar mark can be seen at http://www.silvercollection.it/MW1922BIS.jpg . In the center it can be read Mappin & Webb Made in England and a registry number 634210. Mappin & Webb still is in activity http://www.mappinandwebb.com/ .
On the web I found a very similar one from the same period described as “A sterling silver bon bon dish, mappin & Webb, Birmingham. 1923/4, ascalloped circular dish with gadrooned rim, above pierced diamond sides, supported by three curved feet, weight 52gr. Height 4.5 cm. Diameter 9.5 cm.” http://www.carters.com.au/index.cfm/index/2037-mappin-and-webb-silver/?page=2
I would bet that this one was done for the German market because it is in a style similar to Jugendstil. Thanks for reading.
Very pretty dish, kivatinitz, from the thumbnail I thought it was glass, the work is so delicate! :)
