I acquired this vintage metal kitchen storage tin 30 yrs ago with perforated holes in it and sealable lid but i dont know what was stored in it or how old it really is - any help appreciated

What I think you have here is a food warmer (chafing) If I am right then there would have been other stackable lidded dishes that would have gone inside what you have there. Then the whole thing would have been placed over a large pan of water and steamed, the lockable lid would have been used when transporting the food, so that the dishes inside didn't fall out. I would be interested to hear what others have to say about this wonderful item
I believe crazycat has it right except I think this is actually the inner part of a pasta pot or vegetable, etc. "steamer". It would go into a larger pot and use the middle brim to set on.

Thanks for comments. I never thought of it as a cooking steamer. Don't you think it would holes in the bottom as well though ? Thinking of selling it but didn't know what to list it as. It was found in my Grandads shed 30 years ago.
