I know I often say my vases are big, but this is one of the tallest (but not the heaviest!).

Close to half a metre tall, it is actually quite thin walled, particularly for Japanese glass.
It is made from clear glass to which fine trailings of blue, green, yellow and black have been added. It appears that then the whole vase has been coated in gold sheet....it certainly does not look like aventurine. The way the gold sheet has burnt away and allowed the trailing to break through is wonderful.

It is subtle and marvelous and I guess dates from the late 70s or 1980s.
I can't imagine it's value at the time it was made - this was never cheap glass!

One gets the sense of a riverbank, looking at this vase. Lovely background. :)

Monsoon weather here on the West Coast!

Unfortunately Mike most of my glass is on the Eastern side of the house, surrounded by big trees so not so much sun shines up the glass. There is lots here though (glass I mean). Thanks.
We are almost mid winter here and despite greay days it has been silly warm in Sydney - up to 20c - and I worry about the climate - it's a bit wrong!
I've heard the States has had some bad weather - hope your summer fines up!!

See the weather comment above Katherine!

Nice comment on the vase - it does have a very natural environment feel happening. Thanks. Karen
