This enigmatic pair of vases is in a decor that will be no doubt recognized by several, but identified positively by none. The decor, a marbled swirling of aqua, brown, violet, and ivory hues over a white opal under-layer, is almost always found on this shape. The only other shape I've seen it on is a short squat version of this shape with the same three-pointed rim on a rose-bowl shaped body. They have all the quality of a Loetz, high-end Kralik, or Schliersee. I feel very certain that these are of Bohemian or Bavarian origin, but I don't have sufficient evidence to say that they are one maker over all others. But I do like them very much. It is my hope that we will one day find one of these that is either marked, or with an original label. Until then, we just continued to search for more examples.
Opal underneath, marble-swirled layer, then an outer layer of crystal, bathed in acid to give them a satin texture. Fire-polished rim, finely ground and polished pontil. Height 9.5"
