I inherited this item in the 1970's but I have no idea where it came from. My Aunt, who left it to me, travelled all over the world so I presume she picked it up on her travels.
I am not sure if it is carved from bone or ivory. The carving is very intricate and depicts animals and angel type figures.
There are 4 separate pieces and each peace measures approx 8 inches x 2 inches. It is in excellent condition as it has always been displayed behind glass.
The fourth photo is of the back of the carving. Is there a way of sussing out if it is ivory or bone?
Any views on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Pam

Have a close look at the back side with a 15x loop. The picture here shows air bubbles. Bone and Ivory don't have air bubbles.

      Thank you for your comment.
I have studied the item and the marks you describe as air bubbles are more like marrow bone marks.
I have also tried the pin test and this leaves no mark whatsoever on the items.
I am leaning more towards the carving being carved from bone. Do you think I am correct?
