It was in the bathroom of an estate sale next to cologne and shampoo bottles so at first I didn't know what the **** it was. Anyway, its a very thick .940 overlay, it has a pin and chain that you can take the whole silver piece off the wine bottle, so there's a substantial amount of silver on it, several ounces. Made by Taller Borda, mark is the GF or FG thing. Pretty neat. just wish these marks were easier to identify. Cannot find anything at all anywhere like it online
Wow. As Sean would say...stunning!
Thanks racer. Isn't it? I've never seen any Mexican pieces quite like it before. Thought it was some weird cologne bottle at first, being in the bathroom and all
OMG this is amazing!!! Good lookin' out!!! I'll take a peek at a few sites and let you know if I find something. Hey, what about that site that vetraio gave me...
925-1000.com ? They may have something there. I think aghcollect referred me to that site before too. And they are both pretty much on the money with their answers... If I got it wrong, I'll come back and correct it for you.
Okay yea, you don't wanna go there...it's American silver marks... Duh lol
No its got marks from all over the world if you look at the tabs on top, problem is that they are only the really obvious well-known artists. Already tried that site lol. There were very few records kept of Mexican silver marks so its tough to figure them out
Totally unique as usual thanks for sharing stillwater.
So rare and wonderful! What a find!
The little book of mexican silver trade and hallmarks mentions a conjoined GF together vid eagle 9 for Gabriel Flores. You can search in the book online.
On page nr 66 in the book they show the mark that looks like your mark. It sais Gabriel Flores was the son in law of Hectror Aguilar and that he worked for him for 10 years at Taller Borda workshop. So I think this is solved.
Have a nice day!
Lol you figured all that out before I got a chance to check my email! Doesn't it feel great when you solve a mystery like that, when you put a puzzle together in the antique world? Lately I've been having that pleasure when I find a Chinese or Japanese that I've been searching a month for
Thanks for your detective work on this one Elisabethan, good job!
.
You're welcome! Yes it is nice to find clues or answers. I try to as often as I can.
