some more pictures of this pfaff machine that i am having trouble identifying i did a quick search of the serial number and it seems to date to the late 1800s (1898) and it says there were 40000 machines made by pfaff that year but i still cant find another model that looks anything like this.
UPDATE this machine has arrived and it has an E on the back plate. i cant find any examples of a pfaff model E so there cant be many about. i think it is a copy of a singer improved family or early 15 (or maybe the singer improved family is a copy of this pfaff, you never know!) as it has the same bobbin mechanism as these early machines i.e the bobbin fits into the mechanism there is no bobbin case.
This would be a copy of the singer Improved Family machine. The Singer IF machine was produced from 1879 to 1895 when it was changed to the singer model 15. Very nice machine. Have you got it to sew yet ?
