Hadrian's are very common & varied, but I've never seen this style. They were often counterfeited during that era but even the copies hold similar values. When you flip it over, does the obverse stay in line with the face side, only upside down? I'm no expert & just have enough knowledge to be dangerous. I was going to sell the 18-20 coins I have, but when I found the low prices, I decided to keep them as they worth more as conversation pieces to me.

Hi Blunderbus, Yep, the obverse stays inline but upside down. Is that right or wrong - goo or bad? :) This particular coin is quite saught after due the depiction of the Light House of Alexandria (one of the seven wonders). I have seen much poorer examples go for 4 figures (the odd one at even 5 figures).

      kind rgds

      James :)

      HI Again Blunderbuss2,

I have uploaded some better images - i think :) Do you think this coin could be classed as VF
    5. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 9 years ago
J/B, you seem to have me confused with somebody else. #1 - " -- just enough knowledge to be dangerous". I have a small collection of Roman & Celtic coins and grade then as: "Neat, really nice, not so nice & nice". I'll grade yours as VN: Very Nice.

nope. i know you are no expert. was just shooting the breeze. i will go with VN :)

Just looked at my little collection that came from the UK & have no Hadrians & now will have to find out why since he was a strong force in the UK.

that's what i love about collecting. since i acquired this coin i have become an expert on the seventh wonder of the world ... well sort of :)

Dammit! You have me sidetracked on this bloody coin when I am supposed to be studying to renew my aircraft inspector's ticket! I have an "asses" in my collection that could be a Hadrian but it is too worn to tell. In the right light & right angle, it could be Hadrian or maybe Pres. Carter. Just impossible to tell. All my other coins are at least 70 yrs. after Hadrian's birth certificate expired.

Forget the study man! Your future is in coin grading. I have just had the coin slabbed (put it in a nice capsule) and labeled it BB VN. What do you reckon the coin you mention is: possibly a BB UK? :)
    11. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 9 years ago
No. I'll give it a BB VB (Very Bad).
