A Fathers Day Tribute

My Father was a radar operator aboard the USS PROTECTOR during the Cold War. These picket ships were the eyes and ears whatching for Soviet aggression before satellites. These ships were strung up and down each coast so their radar ranges would overlap . The Latin motto loosely translated means " While You Sleep , We Watch ". Kind of chilling . He passed away from an aneruysm at age 25 - two months before I was born .

The aluminum disc is 6 inches and was probably at one time attached to a wood plaque and presented to some port the ship had visited, I'm assuming.
My fathers embroidered patch is 3 3/4 inches .
The lighter was given to me by my kids who found it on ebay, as a Fathers Day gift one year.
