the collectors and dealers around central illinois where I am are telling me they have seen this sign in the horizontal version, but not the vertical version like mine. They also tell me it is supposed to say "Quality Farm Machinery" on the bottom. Also wondered approx. how old this sign is?

seeker1157, Can you get a closeup of the Deere, this will help to get close to date of sign. John Deere logos had many changes with deere running, leaping, four legs, two legs, ect.

StihlCollector aren't the three legged deers older signs. This one here is a four legged.

this is a porcelain sign, but the other side is mostly gone.

seeker1157 I'd say your sign is out of the 1930's.

Officialfuel, I would say you are correct. One thing I will add is in 1937 the deere stayed the same but log was streamlined by removing border and slogan. seeker1157, look at your logo and see if it has slogan and border this will help to narrow it down more. Next major change came in 1950 with a new look. The logo was changed many times over the years to keep up with the ever expanding company. Officialfuel your previous post about four legs, I could not tell for sure by photos and I did not want to give wrong information. My wife keeps telling me I need glasses, maybe she is right. lol

StihlCollector, I think the visible left ear dates it.

Officialfuel you are right again, how can you see that? I better get some glasses. I just have a problem sometimes seeing small details.

You better listen to your better half and get those glasses! LOL :-)

Educate me, how does the "visible left ear" date this? And yes, it has 4 legs on it. The John Deere museum is supposed to be calling me about, but have not yet.

1936-Deere's centennial a year later resulted in a number of collectibles bearing this shield-shapedlogo. The deer again has four legs, but has been simplified to an all-solid design. Upon closer inspection, note the longer tail and visible left ear in the artwork.

Thank you officialfuel, for the info. Now, (lol), can someone help me put a price on this dang thing? It's 72 inches tall by 23 3/4 inches wide, porcelain, two sided (but one side is 80% gone). Am probably going to put it on Ebay next week.

Well collectors, guess what I just found out from Aumann Auctions in Nokomis, Illinois? This sign sold in there November 2008 auction (a better one condition wise) for get this............$32,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me thinks I got a good one here!

Yea, I was aware of that. Aumann auctions advertises in Toy Farmer a magazine I receive. I seen it in one of there ads of past auctions.

I am coming in late, but the sign is older than a "37" model. In 1936, they went to the stencil logo; solid black. From 1876 to 1910, they used an Antelope looking deer, almost smooth and hairless, with his antlers on his back. You could see all four legs stretched out. Then from 1910, they went to the deer with his legs folded underneath him with a logo. I think he is dated around 1910, when they started to make the change, just before they registered the trademark. Let me know where I stand to be corrected. I am always learning!!
