TAKE A LOOK AT ALL PHOTOS.....You don't see many of these WW NAVY 11 Compacts..This has a mirror inside top, Place for puff, powder and over screen, small puff, and rouge compartment.( photo 2) Could be a gift from her sailor or she might have been in the "waves" and purchased for herself on base--1942-1945 or thereabouts. Nice condition, OH! and with a big anchor atop. Attractive! Good condition. Has some product still inside. Probably real mother of pearl. Or do you think man made material___Too heavy for celluloid. (See last photo)
Might have cost quite a bit. Well kept and preserved.
Does anyone out there still own a military compact in this condition? I have never seen one before and of couse I am wondering about rarity and ballpark estimate of value. Anyone??

WW2 sweetheart items come in a myriad of styles and designs. I have seen many compacts before-- don't know that I have seen this particular example, but I have seen some that are very similar.
The variety of styles has always been part of the charm of sweetheart collecting-- ALWAYS a new one around the corner.
I'd put yours in the $25- $45 range.

I never collected WW11, but I rented "booth space" in an antique mall with a good friend who did. All ww11.
The manager of the mall, was real picky about what he allowed displayed!! Says Joe could not display any German items as it might be too sensitive for those oppressed, or their families during WW11. He removed anything he had with a swaztika A LOT! the emblem of the German-Nazi party.
Seemed strange because Joe fought overseas in WW11 himself ( this rental was about 20 years ago).., So many ex-servicemen stopped by and chatted about where the were stationed, etc. The booth always had former fighting men in it. He kept a folding chair just outside the booth for guys who just needed" to talk.
I was there for his oddest sale--A small Filipino(spelling?) woman, at least I thought she was Filipino came in searching for a drab army blanket-- he had one, she kept rolling a piece of it between her fingers...and finally said," I don't sleep well," and Joe said--"and you want a rough scratchy blanket like G.I issue!"!
She said," I loved my soldier--we slept good, I remember"
Apparently, She went from place to place looking for just the same type blanket. Joe didn't have it
.One girl must have slipped through enemy lines?
Or--- didn't we occupy the Philappines (SP)after the war??
WW11 is out of my backward scope--doesn't go back that far.
Joe Martino passed but it was wonderful knowing him. He was THE most patriotic man I ever knew
