I've been an avid Character watch collector for years and always thought there were only 3 style New Haven Annie watches(justifiably so, no reference made before today) .....The pre-war large frame(dial marked "Pats Pending) and the 2 1948(Circled "C") post-war variants, which are 25% smaller frames.
Well I ran across a small frame Annie with no "copyright " marked at the 8 o'clock on the dial......Well did several hours of research and found an advertisement from 1938, introducing the smaller frame Annie watch. Note all the reference books I own and after talking to several fellow collectors, no one had every seen or knew of these.
So here's my latest contribution to the knowledge base on early "Character" watches..... There are "4" variants of early New Haven Orphan Annie watches....#1 Large Frame (size 6/0) circa 1932/33 #2 small frame(size 8/0) pre copyright, circa 1938 and #3&4 small frame (size 8/0) post-war, copyrighted dial.
Thanks for looking,
Kerry
Thanks Kerry for all the info ! Always a surprise to find a new variant and exciting ! Love them all but looks like you found a very rare one xoxo
" Listen in to the 1940s radio show----"Who's The Little Chatterbox, The one with all the curley locks, Who can She Be? Its Little Orphan Annie (theme for radio program. (I have the original sheet music, a newspaper give-away).
OK kids, get out your Little Orphan Annie decoder ring.! After the station break we'll have you crack the coded message"!! Don't forget to eat your Oatmeal!
Good Evening everyone, first Let me address comments .
Hello Mani, yes indeed, this floored me, I never knew these existed, none of reference material every mentioned these, but the advertisement shed the light, shear luck that I ran across it. xoxo
PostCardCollector, I have several "ROA" collectibles, even have a couple decoders from various years, but going to have to leave the oatmeal to afew others....never got a taste for it :-)

I know how that is. You think you know everything about something and then you find out you don't.
Hey Kerry mine looks like yours in the fist photo but has the copyright circle
Interesting post. Now I have to dig my Annie watch out and have a look. I think my mother got it around 1934. She over wound it and it was never worn again. Poor watch lived it's life packed away.
Thank you
fortapache, the discovery was well worth the reminder :-)
rlwindle,
mickeysmagic, if there is circle "C", would be 48 issue
Daddy_Nobucks,
ttomtucker
and
fhrjr2, the overwound can be fixed, fairly easy, give her a little sideways shake and should run a little, do it again, after short time of the shaking, should run on it's own
Thanks again everyone, very appreciated!!
