Another junk shop discovery... I don't even know what to call it... It's made of very hard wood and has a very, very smooth worn black surface. It has been stained black. Very primitive looking. There are minor scuffs, scratches and dings all over it. The underside is more worn and has the impression of having sat on fabric. The protrusion is hand carved. One side of it looks as though an eye and a beak was shallowly carved, but the other side does not look like that. I don't know if it's a bird, a bean, or some type of erotic sculpture. Maybe a Pacific Northwest or Native American object? There are no other markings on it. The last photo gives a better idea of its size. It's 4.125" long X 3" wide X 2.25" high and weighs 6 ounces. Very dense.

I'm at a loss, but it's very interesting? Any Native American experts care to comment? Thank you!
