This oil lamp is from the Art Deco period. It's small, about 5 inches long, but you wouldn't want to drop it on your bare toes (ow!) I bought it today from a thrift shop for 4,50 Euro ($5.00). These are selling anywhere from $73.00 to $100.00. I have wanted an Aladdin's Lamp for as long as I can remember, but just about all the ones I've seen are those junky, thin brass lamps. This one is a beautiful red bronze, with it's original patina. The lid is removable. My Italian glass Genie bottles won't be lonely anymore, lol~! Color me HAPPY~!
Great find - Just Andersen items are quite popular here in Denmark. I think it is made of 'disko metal' (named after the Disko Bay in Greenland) which Just Andersen (1984-1943) is famous for and invented himself - the exact combination of metals is still unknown!
beautiful!!
@jensen & SEAN68: thanks for your comments! I read about his use of disko metals. This particular Aladdin's Lamp is listed on a Denmark site as being bronze. It does have the same reddish hue as a bronze...hmmm...maybe I was lucky! :) In any event, I have always wanted an Aladdin's "Magic Genie" Lamp. It only took me 62 years to find one.
yep it is bronze you there .
SEAN68- yeah baby!! :-)
Did you rub it, did a genie appear? ;)
beautiful! i would rub it a lot if i were you! [just don't polish it!]
