I found 2 8" hard plastic dolls today at a local charity store that I love to browse during lunch.
The first one is an original Betsy McCall- back stamped, clothing seems appropriate (though all I can find is this robe in pink, not blue). Very good shape, though the band between her arms is a little loose with age.
Along with her, I found another 8" hard plastic doll- this one is not stamped/ marked in any way that I can see.
She is wearing a green outfit that I have see on another (original) Betsy McCall doll, down to the ballet slippers.
But everything else is different - But her body and head color do not match, her feet appear to have white on them (did not remove the slipper to confirm), only her arms are movable- the rest of her body is fixed. Her face it different in form and size... and her body is MUCH more voluptuous. (Frankly, I'm jealous!! lol)
Perhaps she is just wearing hand-me-down clothes?
I'm going to look her over thoroughly again tonight to see if I missed any kind of marking.
But thought's I'd share... I like these 2 girls!
What a great find I love Betsy McCall ! The other one appears to have been redressed . Often made by PMA( Plastic Mold Arts) normally have stapled in clothes but also could buy nude and dress them . Your prize is Betsy ! I think she has Betsy's clothes :-)

I knew that the other one was not the same kind of find as Betsy... but I didn't want to separate them :)

I think doll 2, has a real flirty looking eye on her, andI know everybody wants a Betsy...but I want the #2--(because probably she is hard to find and her face is interesting and with a Kardashian behind(! )no less)! That is pretty unusual for a doll of the day. Watch the change to "bigger butts on Barbie" to go along with the times.Is there a Kardashian doll out yet?
I thought her eyes were giving that come-hither look. Definitely a Kardashian booty! lol- I was thinking that was odd, especially (as you said) for that time period... but since the skin tone of her head doesn't match her body, she most likely had a little plastic surgery! (yeah, go ahead and groan at that little but of humor~)
The 2nd doll also sometimes referred to as a dutchesss doll are very abundant ! They sell for only a few dollars if that .
Her yes are stuck half open is all.
