This old 1940s-50s bike came up in a local newspaper ad & I couldn't resist. They told me it was a Schwinn, but upon inspecting it I found it to be a knock off brand that I never heard of before. ACE? Like the hardware store? Never heard of it & can't find anything about them. Oh well, it's a pretty nice old bike and just needs new tubes & it's ready to cruise. The seat reminds me of the 40s seats but I'm old and a lot of things remind me of the fabulous 40s. Those were the days when if something said "Made in Japan" you knew for sure it was cheap junk and would fall apart before you could ever even use it! Have things ever changed in the Orient!
We think this cute old bike fits right in with our gas pumps and signs at the Lakeside Storage Museum. We got the bike from a nice lady in Salt Lake City & there isn't even a good story to tell about it, except that we came home by way of Park City and the drive was beautiful & we stopped and got a delicious Carmel apple on the way. Nummie! I had my wife with me on this adventure so it was a sissy hunt, unlike some of them. I didn't bother to pack a pocket full of cash for a surprise exotic find or even carry my 9mm Glock for protection. Odd day of hunting for me. Fun just the same as my wife has been my girlfriend for 51 years this month.
I could not either as well :) stunning pick :)
$40 for a good bike in running condition (almost) seemed like a real fair price for this old "girl" so we scooped it up and stuck it in the back of my wife's car. It doesn't have the Sturmy Archer 3 speed hub, but is still a great cruiser bike and does have the coaster brakes on the rear hub for "slide stopping" if you're "young and cool". Ahhhh! That's a guy thing and isn't cool on a girls bike. I forgot! Old age again!
Great bike but I love the story about you and your wife ! May you be blessed with many many more years with your girlfriend and wife :-)
Great find and Happy Anniversary!!
Thank u for the Good wishes. Ours is a storybook life filled with all the colors of the rainbow. We met on a blind date set up by mutual friends in College and were married 2 mos later. We had 9 kids and have had 51 wonderful years on the rollicoster ride of mortality. All our kids/grandkids live within 30 min of home. It doesn't get any better than this & doesn't need to. Our kids are best friends with each other and with us. Life is good!
