Does anyone know anything about this type of trunk? And what is the gold paint design. And how was it done?

You have a "waterfall" or "monitor" style of trunk. It was painted with a chemical treatment called "crystallization" which is very hard to duplicate. Your trunk is around the time of 1890's or so. Hope this helps a bit...
Thanks trunkman.
And T-Mon comes thru again! Don't worry, I'm just passing thru & not a threat yet! LOL!
hey Trunkman and Duey. I have the same exact trunk. same style and locks etc. not sure of the paint job as it has been painted over. the locks and other metal attachments are all copper and the inside has decorative old paintings. I am wondering what a trunk like this is worth? I inherited this from a family death and am currently out of work and could use some cash if this is worth anything. your help appreciated............THANKS!
Hey cabledude -- kinda hard to assess a trunk without seeing a picture of it. Condition means a lot as in most things antique. These are lovely trunks but the value is not that high -- and lower if it is painted over. You should see some comparable prices for trunks in general in you local classified -- it will have some worth to someone if that helps! Good luck on your job search....
thanks trunkman
