The information I can find on the trumpet is Germany, number 6037. It has beautiful etching on it around the horn.
My husband purchased it from a pawn shop in 1970 as used. The carrying case has Eurostyle on it.
Any information would be appreciated.
I have had very limited experience with trumpets and coronets. One thing I did learn is a guy named Sax or Saxe in France made fakes and sold them as originals. You might pull the valves and see if they are marked and if they are marked in German or French. The Frenchman let his EGO defeat him by marking his in French. There used to be a book called horns of the world. Probably out of print but it had pictures etc. to guide you. I happened upon a lot deal of horns and banjo's some time ago and it was hell researching them. Even worse trying to sell them. I decided to stick to playing the radio.
So, marking "Germany" would at least put it pre WWII. There were quite a few possible manufacturers in Germany back then. Keilwerth, B&S, e.g. Mostly they put their own names on but for export they usually shipped them with no name so that the distributor could put its name on them instead, so called "stencil horns". Sometimes they were just sold without any name. Often there are small specific details that can tell you which maker it may be but the problem with your trumpet is that it's really quite generic in its design although well built. A "fake" or "original" would require a famous label first of all. No need to make a fake if you don't tell people what you want them to believe... Any way, you might want to try posting it at http://www.horn-u-copia.net/ to see if anyone has a guess. Nice horn to hang on the wall anyway!
