    Moonstonel…
    (765 items)

This was a great find and finally accomplished recently. I have owned the Spiraloptisch for a while now. I have wanted to link that decor with more similar decors. As you can see that both pieces are from the same glass house. In having the great opportunity to have, both in hand. It is my opinion that they are both Welz and from the same glass house. They both turn bright orange under black light and beautifully made. The second and third pictures are from the PGM, Welz display. Many thanks to a good friend for the pictures.
    Thanks for looking

Really nice examples in a very unique ground.

This first image link below shows a vase in draped in a green and pink décor which can be linked to Welz. It is in the draped décor also.

The pink and green décor on several Welz examples can be seen in this image:

Lastly, the first example in green and pink can be seen in this link in the very distinctive Cadmium yellow of these two examples.

Kitavinitz, the only vases I have are in the first picture :). The others are from the Passau Glass Museum :)

Alfredo, the attribution is up for discussion. If this warrants it. There is always new information we are learning that is out there. If we are open to finding out. I love new research. Thanks for your comment :).

I for one am always open to a reasonable debate and discussion of an attribution.

It seemed, at least to me, that the draped decor being exclusively Kralik had early beginnings with the claim that a couple of draped vases in the Passau Welz case, one in a very distinctive shape, were not made by Welz, but by Kralik.

I simply started, a couple of years ago, from a point where I did not accept that claim as unquestionable fact. Personally, I have never seen anything to solidly support it. That shape, as seen in the bottom of image 2, has never been seen that I am aware of, in a Kralik décor, or in any other decor than draped for that matter.

I certainly did not set out to prove Welz made some of this décor, but as pieces of glass presented themselves in my research, that is where they led me.

In starting without any preconceived notions as to origins.... colors, shapes, and the draped decor on other examples led me to the conclusion that Welz did at least make some draped production.

I would certainly welcome any supportable evidence that proves Welz did not make the décor, or that Kralik was the only one that did.

The same basic statement applies for the Spiraloptisch décor also.

I was looking through my image archive yesterday for something else, and came across a vase. The light pink draped piece in Passau is a style of draped which is not seen all that often. This image shows the organic form vase in Passau, a draped vase that appears to most likely have been produced using the same technique in the same colors, but is in the shape of the Cadmium yellow example in your collection. To me at least, this simply provides an additional small clue, which when taken into consideration with a number of other links, seems to reinforce the Welz identification for at least some of the draped production.

As one other interesting photo, and I do use auction houses as a source of attribution, here is an example of the pink draped decor sold by Quittenbaum in Nov. 2012. This décor matches the other pink examples in that it is a white lined piece with a light pink outer layer in the draped décor. The auction house described this piece as being produced by Franz Welz Klostergrab.
