This is a WW II Japanese type 38 rifle, which was another standard rifle issued to Japanese troops. It is shown with a good luck flag tied to the rifle in the same manner a Japanese soldier would have tied it before going into battle. The flag is signed by friends and family members, and would be presented to the soldier before going to war. What makes this rifle rare is that the symbol of the Emporer, the chrysanthemum, is not ground off as most were before being brought home as a souvenir.
My dad brought home the same rifle. It also has the Emperor makings.
