I got this tonight at a auction. No one at auction which included several antique dealers knew what this is. Need Help!! It is 6" long by 2" wide, wood and metal with 2 screws on sides that open & close and 2 metal pins that move. Does anyone out there know?? :) Thank you
Take 2 more really clear pictures of it. One from the underside, and one with it laying on it's side, and post them.

I don't think so kyratango, but it just may be. What ever it is, I think it is only half of a complete tool, or assembly. Need to see the bottom of it.
I would have guessed way out of the ball park if this is related to bullet. There doesn't seem to be a pour spout that I can see.
Ok I added some more pictures. Could it be a nut cracker? I don't think it had more parts, it looks complete. Thank all for helping. Julie
Good Pictures! I'm still looking for you, as I'm sure others are. The fact that it has the all thread rod, with the 2 brass thumb nuts, tells me there is more to it, than the piece you have. Those are not on there for decoration, but serve a function, such as a pivot point, or attachment for another piece, (in my opinion of course) .
I also think parts are missing. In my opinion this was a feed pot for lead. Possible user would be someone doing leaded stained glass windows or even a tin smith making copper lamps. Just my 2 cents.
The lack of burn/scorch marks doesn't add up if this was actually used. I hope someone identifies it positively so we all learn
A friend thinks it was to make bullets, casting mold but there is no spout. Thanks you guys for helping! :)
This is odd but not old. Looks like something Brookstone might have sold in their specialty tool line.
I agree about the lack of burn marks on the outside "fhrjr2", so it, probably did not do any melting.. "Julonmain", I was wrong about the single all thread shaft. After putting on my extra high powered reading glasses, I see it has 2 Separate screws on it (looks like 1/4-20 thread each), which changes my thinking a tad bit. I'm now thinking that these 2 screws may have clamped, and/or held in place something like a "Candle", hence Candle Holder "MAYBE'!!!!! Is their any wax residual inside the cup? Is their a small spike in the bottom of the cup? I also notice the flat bottom, which lets it sit stable in place, which adds to My Last Guess.
No wax or spike but could be used from candle!!
Wooden handles usually mean heat. Maybe it was never used. Does appear for casting bullets for somebody with the DT's, but no spout. I'm lost (As usual).

Just a guess, so please work with me here:
I think it's a soldering pot. You would clamp two items (let's say a cable) in the screws, the two tines would help keep it flat and in line, you apply the solder iron and solder, the bowl catches dripping. If you look close, the ends of the screws show discoloration that maybe from the heat, so it may have seen some light duty use.
Also, is there a number stamped in the wood handle, 729?
