This gorgeous Victorian jacket was made for my great grandmother in the mid to late 1800's. It is all hand made and hand beaded with jet black glass beads. The inside is as beautiful as the outside.
It is sleeveless with a black velvet stand-up collar. It has double-looped beaded fringe around the armholes and the bottom of the jacket.
It has 12 hook and loop closures down the front. The back has a double pleat. It is simply gorgeous (even with a couple of beads missing) and I've never seen anything like it.
Wonderful piece of family memories!
Thanks Kyratango! Wish I was small enuf to wear it! I'd have to lose a few pounds!!
I know what you mean about size. I came across my mom's prom dress, and couldn't have worn it even as a kid!
I'm curious about this bodice. Were they usually sleeveless? I would have thought a formal gown like this would have had sleeves, but perhaps not?
That's a good question! I don't know but this must have been a summer item. Maybe they wore a long sleeve blouse under it?
